EMC and Nikoyo Drive Knowledge Management in Hong Kong
with Donation of EMC Documentum eRoom to Hong Kong PolyU

Hong Kong, Tuesday, May 8, 2007 – EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC), the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, and its Velocity Premier Partner, Nikoyo (HK) Limited, today announced the donation of EMC Documentum eRoom, an innovative web-based collaboration software package, to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) for its Master of Science in Knowledge Management (MSc KM) degree course. This is the first-of-its-kind deployment of web-based collaboration software for students in the Hong Kong tertiary education sector.

EMC Documentum eRoom is designed to enable people from different departments, locations and companies to work as if they were in the same location. This allows employees to work more securely with others across the enterprise and collaborate easily with external partners, suppliers and clients.

Gabriel Leung, General Manager of EMC Hong Kong, commented: "The donation of EMC Document eRoom marks a significant contribution to IT education. By collaborating with Nikoyo and PolyU, EMC is educating a new generation of IT professionals on web-based collaboration software, and also fostering next generation talent in information and knowledge management."

With EMC Documentum eRoom, they can converge from various points in a single, secure online workspace, to do their coursework in groups and collaborate on discussions, projects and exchange of information. “Online collaboration and sharing of project documents are very important to these students, as group projects are an integral part of the course requirements. Previously, such collaboration relied heavily on email attachments or other platforms in the public domain, but with EMC Documentum eRoom, our students working in different companies in different locations can now benefit from the software and work more closely and effectively on a centralized and secure platform,” noted Eric Tsui, Professor of Knowledge Management, of PolyU’s Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering.

EMC Documentum eRoom additionally provides instant visibility of the status of group projects and processes, enabling instructors to track the performance of each student in the group to enable a more balanced assessment. Equally importantly, it also serves as a reliable backup system for archiving the project documents and other online discussions and exchanges among students.

“Given that 70% of the MSc KM course is carried out via web-based learning, online tutorials and web conferencing, the web-based, feature-rich EMC Documentum eRoom not only fulfills our students’ learning needs, but also complements their learning experience with practical hands-on experience on one of the most popular enterprise collaboration platforms in knowledge management. The deployment of EMC Documentum eRoom makes PolyU’s MSc KM course a true post-graduate program in theory and in practice,” continued Prof. Eric Tsui of PolyU.

The donation of EMC Documentum eRoom was also supported by EMC Velocity Premier Partner and leading Hong Kong-based system integrator, Nikoyo. Apart from the license donation, Nikoyo offered fully-fledged support services to PolyU, including technical consultation, software implementation and staff training.

Jacob Lo, Chief Technology Officer, Nikoyo (HK) Limited, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the deployment of EMC Documentum eRoom with the donation of licenses and provision of technical consultation and support. This highlights the shared passion between EMC and Nikoyo for providing an avenue to improve the educational capabilities of students in the future. We will continue to offer support and advice to PolyU to ensure that MSc KM students can make the most out of the EMC Documentum eRoom experience.”

“As the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, EMC will continue to innovate and seek new opportunities to drive the deployment of knowledge and content management solutions in education, and also in the public and business sectors, to help customers better manage information and use it to create new value,” said Gabriel Leung, General Manager of EMC Hong Kong.
